From 30 June, the first lorries carrying equipment for the drilling rig will begin arriving at the drilling site, which was established in April on private land in Ørrild near Fårup. This marks the official start of preparations for the test drilling.
Specifically, the test drilling will retrieve core samples from the subsurface and take measurements of the geological strata down to a depth of more than 3,000 metres.
Together with the results of the seismic survey carried out in the spring, the data from the test drilling will determine whether the subsurface in the Greenstore area is suitable for the safe and permanent storage of CO2.
The drilling rig and associated equipment are arriving from Germany in modules on just over 100 lorries spread over a couple of weeks. To minimise disruption to local residents, all heavy traffic to and from the site will be routed along the gravel track that was built when wind turbines were erected on the same property.
This is a temporary operation, and no CO2 injection will take place. The drilling operations themselves will last four to five months. Afterwards, the rig will be dismantled and the field restored to agricultural use.
