The last days of February will be spent collecting bamboo sticks and geophones, a task that will hopefully be easier now that the thaw has arrived. However, there is one exception: Glenstrup Lake and the surrounding area.
“There are two lakes in the Greenstore area, Fussing Lake and Glenstrup Lake. While we managed to take measurements in Fussing Lake just before it froze completely, we had to postpone activities in Glenstrup due to the cold weather and thick ice. We are keeping our fingers crossed that it will now thaw enough for us to be ready to carry out the surveys during the first week of March. All the equipment is ready to be put in the water as soon as the weather permits,” says Henrik Busk, exploration manager at Harbour Energy and responsible for the seismic survey.
The activities include laying geophones partly in the lake and partly around the lake at a distance of approximately two kilometres from the shore all the way around. The geophones on land will be placed 20 metres apart in north-south rows with 320 metres between each row. The geophones will capture and record sound waves from the many layers of the subsoil down to a depth of 3,000 metres. To obtain the best results, measurements must be taken on the lake itself from a boat and in the surrounding area using a vibration truck on the roads.
“Glenstrup Lake is so large and occupies such an important location in the Greenstore area that we are very keen to obtain data from this area. If we were to omit the lake, there would be too large a gap in our data set. We do not want to compromise on the quality of the seismic survey, as we will be making some important decisions based on the data collected. We therefore hope that residents and landowners in the area around Glenstrup Lake will bear with us a little longer.”
A more invisible task is now underway. Data from the 60,000 geophones used in the survey must be downloaded to some powerful computers. The final results of the survey will not be ready for a few months.
Danish-speaking employees from Rambøll will continue to be out in the field, and they can still be contacted at seismik@greenstore.dk and by telephone on 6036 2540 if you have any questions about the survey.
